Peer workers, like in any professional discipline, need quality, standardised training and ongoing professional development. Through extensive research and co-design, SHARC has developed Peer Worker Training.  This comprehensive training provides a vital knowledge base for peer workers, and ensures that the peer workforce has a discipline-specific framework.

Audience:

This training is designed for current AOD Peer Workers of funded Victorian AOD agencies

Outline:

The SHARC Peer Worker Training seeks to:

• Educate Peer Workers around the concepts and core competencies of the peer work discipline
• Assist Peer Workers to apply best practice peer work in formalised settings
• Explore the key components of the role with a focus on the peer relationship
• Increase confidence and develop skills in communication and navigating relational parameters
• Develop understandings of ethical practice and workplace legislative requirements
• Empower Peer Workers to advocate for the discipline and manage their own wellbeing and development needs
• Prepare Peer Workers to work across a number of domains, remaining ‘peer’ within clinical governance frameworks

This prerecorded two-hour webinar explores co-occurring alcohol and other drugs and mental health conditions, focussing on care responses, priorities and the role of integrated care.

The Forensic Foundations E-learn is designed for new Alcohol & Other Drug (AOD) sector staff to provide foundational knowledge to support the provision of AOD treatment of forensic clients. This one-hour e-learn will assist you to navigate the forensic AOD system and processes. The content was developed by VAADA and the e-learn was designed by Caraniche. Specifically, the e-learn course will provide you with foundational knowledge about:

• how a forensic client is defined
• the differences between forensic and voluntary clients
• the key stakeholders and their roles and responsibilities
• the AOD funding system (targets and loadings for forensic treatment)
• treatment options for forensic clients
• the main referral pathways between the criminal justice and AOD treatment systems
• clinical safety, supervision and self-care

This E-learn provides the foundational knowledge that is further expanded on in the Forensic Fundamentals training workshop.

The Advanced Supervision Skills training package includes a pre-workshop e-learn and a half-day online workshop focusing on discussions and skill-building activities to apply learnings. It has been designed for those who have completed the Supervision Skills Foundations training and who are seeking to further expand their supervisory skills.

What is covered?

Building on the learnings in the Foundations Package, this training further explores reflective practice approaches, and provides information and skills for facilitating group supervision sessions, responding to challenges in supervision and tailoring supervision to supervisees needs. Ethical and legal considerations in supervision are also explored.
