ABOUT PROVIDER

Dellie McKenzie is a registered Nurse Practitioner who has worked in the area of alcohol and other drugs for over 20 years, both in the public and private sector, in Victoria and the Northern Territory. She has experience working in emergency departments, hospital consultation liaison, project management, case management, forensic treatment, both inpatient and outpatient withdrawal services, and community-based clinics. Dellie has presented at national and international conferences, lectured in higher education, and produced two educational DVD’s. Dellie currently works with people who inject drugs, providing opiate pharmacotherapy. With a vast background in specialised older adult treatment, Dellie is keen to share her knowledge and experiences with others.

This training session will explore the reasons why we need to provide treatment specifically for older adults (aged 60 years +) to prevent and reduce AOD related harms. It will cover the unique requirements of this cohort and what factors may impact their treatment journey.

Practical strategies will be considered to incorporate into your current practice and service delivery, with the session designed to be interactive and encourage discussion amongst participants.

Eligibility Criteria

This training has been funded for workers employed in a Victorian State-funded Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) service, including those who are new to the AOD sector or recently employed under the COVID-19 Workforce Initiative and Peer workers.

Who is not eligible?

Students on placement or internships, workers from other community sectors such as Family Violence, Homelessness and Mental Health and AOD workers outside of Victoria.

Please ensure you have clearance to attend from your line manager. If you are unable to attend, even if you find out the day before, please cancel your registration and make your spot available to someone else on the waiting list.
