SUMMARY:Take Note! Case notes essentials for the AOD sector
DESCRIPTION:Session Full\n\nAn evidence-based introduction to writing effective\, clinically relevant and legally compliant case notes for the AOD sector\, presented by Greg Coman. \nIMPORTANT NOTE: This online training is only available to staff who are working in a Victorian Department of Health (DH) funded AOD organisation in an AOD role. \nThis training aims to enable alcohol and other drug (AOD) workers to understand the benefits of writing effective case notes for them\, their clients\, and their workplace. It will provide the basis for the development of essential skills required for effective case note writing. \nThe online workshop is pitched at an introductory/ beginner level\, but previous participants with some case note writing experience have reported it to be a helpful refresher. It provides: an understanding of what case notes are; an understanding of the importance and benefits of case notes; guidelines for the content and style of case notes; and opportunities to learn and practice effective case note writing. Videos are used throughout to illustrate points. Participants will be introduced to templates they can consider using in their clinical practice. \nGreg Coman PhD is a Counselling Psychologist with over thirty years experience working in a wide range of mental health settings. His tertiary qualifications reflect his interests in stress\, trauma and problem gambling. Greg undertook his Master of Science degree in psychology\, examining stress and coping amongst Australian police personnel. His PhD thesis examined the efficacy of group telephone counselling for people with gambling difficulties. He has worked as a psychologist in community health\, employee assistance programs and military settings. DESCRIPTION:**Workshop Full**\nPresented by James McGregor\nCognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is among the most widely researched and practised therapeutic approaches for people seeking treatment for alcohol and other drugs (AOD). CBT is highly effective in supporting people to identify and understand unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaviour\, and then to make positive changes to these. The ways that CBT is utilised have changed over the decades\, with current approaches expanding the focus to seamlessly blend traditional CBT principles with concepts of mindfulness\, acceptance\, compassion\, metacognition and therapeutic relationship dynamics. \nIn this workshop\, we will cover a range of techniques and interventions to support people to make sustained changes in their lives\, whether directly for AOD use or other areas of life. This will include the knowledge and skills to raise awareness of unhelpful thinking patterns and to foster an environment that encourages positive changes in behaviour. To attend the webinar\, click the link below to register. \nDescription: What’s really cooking in methamphetamine treatment? This talk explores current evidence for effective medication and psychosocial interventions\, demystifies meth psychosis (what we know and what remains unclear)\, and bridges the gap between research and practice. We’ll unpack emerging guidelines and trials\, including psychedelic-assisted approaches\, to give clinicians an understanding of what you can offer right now\, and what the next few years will bring. \nAssociate Professor Shalini Arunogiri is a clinical addiction psychiatrist and researcher at Monash University and Turning Point\, Eastern Health. She is the Clinical Director of the Hamilton Centre\, Victoria’s statewide centre for co-occurring addiction and mental health\, and an NHMRC Emerging Leader Fellow. Shalini has been an investigator on six Australian national multisite randomised controlled trials of methamphetamine use disorder treatments: N-ICE\, LiMA\, Ready2Change\, the Tina Trial\, OLAM\, and PsiMA. \nShalini completed her PhD on methamphetamine psychosis in 2019 and has published extensively on this topic\, with over 37 research outputs and more than $11 million in grant funding focused on methamphetamine. Shalini is immediate past Chair of the RANZCP Faculty of Addiction Psychiatry\, past Board Director of the International Society of Addiction Medicine\, and Co-Editor-in-Chief of Advances in Dual Diagnosis. Her career spans a wide range of roles\, including work in women’s refuges\, family violence crisis counselling\, program coordination\, and project leadership. Sheridon has delivered significant training and capacity-building initiatives across multiple sectors\, particularly at the intersection of family violence\, alcohol and other drugs\, and mental health. Her work includes private consultation and the design of tailored training programs that support sustainable\, effective practice.
